Editing Listianingsih's posting in her Blog about review for interviewing a waria.

He is Beautiful

  Gone to Bali for the last two weeks for an important agenda, Mas Dalih, our creative writing lecturer, sent his friends Mbak Abmi to substitute for him. She had come as a guest speaker before. As I mentioned in my previous post, one Monday she played the movie Bag It which we had to review. Last week, she brought a guest, a beautiful guest with long hair, a pointed nose, and a proportional body. She sat in a back row. She might appear as a woman, but something unusual about her. I kept wondering if she was actually a “he”. To our surprise, Mbak Abmi mentioned that she was a waria.

  Her introduction began with her name, Olivia Sonya Aresta which ushered us into her world. A nocturnal world whose residents are notoriously known as waria or transvestite. Born in Klaten, she is now living in Yogya, her home since her vocational education. However, her jobs outnumbered her homes. She did odd-jobs like being a volunteer for PKBI (Persatuan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia), a seller of online shop and rather specialized jobs such as a bridal make-up artist.

  She has to struggle in finding her identity because her family, especially her mother, cannot accept her as a waria. She also got mockery from her friends because she is girly. This condition made her to decide for going out from her hometown to get free and searched the place which could accept her just the way she is.

  She went to some places such as Yogyakarta, Solo, Bandung, Jakarta, and Bali several times. But somehow, she feels that Yogya is the pleasant place for her and also the atmosphere is different from others. In Yogya, she found many lessons such as she is more confidence with herself especially when she was a volunteer. She wants to help people and also prove that the identity as a waria has the real contribution to the world by doing useful things.

  There is no doubt again if I said “he is beautiful”. Although she is a marginal but she still keeps beauty inside. Thank you for your inspiration Mbak Sonya.

Art Curatorial : Kim Yeeseul's Painting

It is Kim Yeeseul' painting when she was 16 years. It is her dream car whose color is pink. She wanna have a car like a car which she has painted. Although it's just a car but She also added a background to make she feel like she really drive the car. The background is a sunny-blue weather which can make it like in the real life.

Life Lesson

Life is not easy like what we think before. Especially when we cannot distinguish which one the best friends, which one the enemy in our life. Sometimes someone that we think our best friendss actually they are not our best friends. And someone that we think not our best friends actually they are truly our best friend.

It makes us not really believe with someone. Like happened with one of my friends. She is my best friend since we were at Junior High School. Now, she is a student in one of university at my hometown. Suddenly she called me and told what happen with her. She has best friends and their friendship has existed since they were at Senior High School.  She believes with them and she thinks they are really best friends. How about them? do they think the same with she think?? No, because in the fact they are not really her best friends. Why?? because they trap her and distort the fact. And now she got problem at her campus because of her friends.

I cannot imagine that there are people like them which is existed in the world. Do they think my friend's feel because of their behave?? aaaaaaa, life is difficult. It is one of precious lesson for us.

Just believe my best friend "Allah is always with us and will help us". Everything is well, must be patient and the truth is always win..

"New Experiance"

There was something different in Creative Writing Class last week on May 13, 2013. We have a guest named Mbak Sonya. When we heard her name, we must think she is absolutely a woman and there is no something false. Actually she is "different". She is a waria ( a man who changes his appearance into completely woman, but his gender still as a man). We made a conversation with her and asked some questions and it can be new experience for me.

She is from Klaten. She is a volunteer of PKBI (Persatuan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia). She joined to PKBI on 2006 when the earthquake happen in Yogya. She was really confident because she could do everything although she is a waria. Many people give positive apreciate with her. Although their admission to her not directly but she can know from their behave to her. Unfortunately, although other people can appreciate, respect and accept her like who she is now but her family still cannot do like other people do. Her problem with her family still unresolved.

Before joining to PKBI, she ever got stressed because she has not accepted yet if she is a waria, "why i was not born as a woman, she said." But after joining PKBI and she get much explanation, she grateful about her condition.

She is a freelancer. It's the way that she does for surviving. She prefers to have relation and interact with the public rather than waria. I'm so proud to meet her because i can know something that i don't know before.

Do not judge someone else from their appearance. Give respect, appreciate to every single person that we meet.

MALAM DI PEGUNUNGAN
Chairil Anwar

Aku berpikir: Bulan inikah yang membikin dingin,

Jadi pucat rumah dan kaku pohonan?

Sekali ini aku terlalu sangat dapat jawab
kepingin:

 Eh, ada bocah cilik main kejaran dengan bayangan!

Round Cake

            When break time before attending Creative Class. I felt hungry but I did not have enough time to have a lunch, so I decided to buy a cake. I bought it at Bonbin in one of the stalls there. Bonbin is a canteen in my faculty.
            Yummyyy, it was one sentence which came to my mind after the first bite. I could taste the sweet and little bit salty sensation from that cake. The sweet came from chocolate and the salty was from the butter. That cake was tasteful and so delicious. This cake named Donat.

            The texture of donat was soft not hard so that it was easy to bite. It has round form and there is a hole in the center of it. Its top surface was decorated with chocolate topping.

            Donat has many varieties, not only using chocolate topping but also the others such as jam, vanilla, choc chips, cream, etc. The form of Donat is also not only round with a hole but also the others like only round, oval, square, etc it depends on whom make it. This cake made of the mixture from wheat flour, sugar, eggs and butter.

            Donat is famous cake which is available in almost all cake shops. Donat is not only famous in Indonesia but also in other countries. Almost everyone likes eating Donat.  Donat can be a solution to block our stomach when we feel hungry but we do not have too much time for having lunch or dinner. Donat also has ability to make our mood getting better. By the taste of topping which is so delicious, it can make us forget our problems. From that smell which is exciting, it can make us impatient to eat it. Let’s try Donat for having better mood and feel it the sensation. Hihihihhiii

Creative Writing: Editing

Merapi, Part of Life

"It would be the end of Yogyakarta" they said, "Merapi would explode for the last time and turned it into the city of ash." It was the thing that Endah remembers the most when Merapi explosion in 2010.

As we know, Merapi is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. It may not ever died, even it has had "heavy cough" so many times; ……,1997,2001, 2006, and the last 2010.

Endah went to Yogyakarta to continue her study. She actually had never thought that she would see Merapi's anger in her first year at university. She prepared nothing and got no idea what she had to do to face it. She decided to runaway to Bantul with her friends for a while instead of came back to her hometown. Although in her deep heart she was really scared and wanted to go home, especially after hearing the rumors.

"There are so much bad rumors spread at that time. Television, newspaper, and almost all of media presented the news that I think too much exaggerating. One of the news programs even dare to say that Merapi would have a big last eruption and finally would sink Yogyakarta in ash. And also many stories and myths of the community itself, which increasingly made the refugees felt unsafe. You know what kind of scared they made to a person who has first experience like me" She explained.

Endah comes from Bengkulu, she explained that it has strong earthquake there. Although she little bit often felt earthquake but the explosion of Merapi took its own place in her mind. "Having earthquake in strength about five SR is something like a piece of cake for me, I live with it. However for the experience of earthquake that is followed by materials rain and thunder sound, it was like a surprise on my birthday" she said, " and would it be the end of life?."

Portrait of Malioboro "Past and Present"

Yogyakarta is one of big cities in Indonesia. When people come to Yogyakarta, they must go to Malioboro..
Malioboro in the past must be different with today. Actually i do not know what Malioboro in the past look like, but i just can give some description from seeing the picture.

The first picture is Malioboro in the past and the second is today. We can see the differences between them. Malioboro was still fresh, less pollution because there were still many trees. There were few big buildings and few street vendors. It is so different like today. Malioboro is more crowded because many people come there to enjoy the beauty of Malioboro, seeing performers or even just for shopping. Now, also many buildings such as malls, other places to get shopping and also many street vendors and it makes the street to be narrower.

In the past there were many traditional vehicles such as DokarAndhong and PedicabDokar is a term used for the horse wagon with two wheels and Andhong is used for the same wagon but with four wheels. There were not many transportation like today such as bus, cars and also motorcycle. So that's why there were not much air pollution, so people could still get fresh air and also the environmental was still clean. However there are many transportation now and it makes more pollution because of the fumes. People also get difficulty when they want to across the road because many transportation like cars, motorcycles, bus, etc which are passing on the street and it makes they are worried and afraid if they will get hit by the transportation.  If we go to Malioboro, we also can see if there are not many traditional vehicles such as Dokar only there are few Andhong and more or less pedicabs which are available there.

I cannot say Malioboro at that time look like more traditional rather than today. Traditional and modern are two different things. I cannot say this is traditional or modern because it depends with time. If we compare now and the past, we can say "now" is more modern rather than "the past" but if we ask other people who live since in the past, they may say if it would be also modern.

Everything must have differences. It happens over time. Beyond of it, Malioboro is still attractive to make other people from everywhere even other countries come and visit Yogyakarta because Malioboro is one of the icon of Yogyakarta and there are special things that make Malioboro different with other places. There is no Malioboro in other places only in Yogyakarta, so come and visit Malioboro and you can get what you want there.. :D

-Just Little For Now-

This is a short story about my self that i can tell you guys..
Let's read...!!

August 30th, 1992 i was born to the world. I completed my family's happiness. My father gave me the name Herlina Endah Atmaja. It has a meaning, my mother told me that Herlina is actually the name of beautiful girl at my father's senior high school. Everybody loved her and especially boys. Many boys tried to close her. Endah is beautiful and Atmaja is the name of my father's grandpa. Actually my mother also had a name for me but afterward my mother agreed with my father's to give me that name. So that's why you know me  as "Endah". I have one sister, my beloved sister and we have nine years age difference. Finally my parents only have two children for completing their happiness.

I came from Bengkulu, a small city. Actually Bengkulu is one of a province in Indonesia but i do not know why sometimes there are people do not know where is Bengkulu exactly. So sad.. :(

know my self from people opinion, i often ask them about me and not only positive one but also negative one. Actually I have a big question in my mind first, when many people think if i have Chinese blood because they think i look like a Chinese  But actually i am Indonesian and there is no Chinese blood in mine. When i asked my parents about this, they were just laugh and said “really?” and then my mother told me when i was still child many people also said like that and you know, it makes me having a lot of experiences such as i have ever called “Amoy”, it was happened when i went to the hospital and a doctor called me “Amoy” and i was so surprised. He also said you look like a Chinese and oh God, i am Indonesian.. And there are other experiences about that. Second, if i ask my friend's opinion about me, the word “spoiled and childish” always emerge from their opinion. Waw..waw.. and it's happened until now.
I know and i realize that if i am still spoiled but i always try to do the best so they do not call me “spoiled girl” again. I do not know why maybe because i'm very close with my parents and i cannot live without them. oh Gosh. That's very dramatic.. hehehe

For my education, when i was in senior high school, 3rd grade, i was confuse to continue my study. Actually i wanted to take the subjects which have connected to the medical. But i could not accepted, i only accepted in one of university in Lampung but finally i did not want to continue there because i got a news “if you would be difficult to finish your study there.” And then i told to my teacher and he told me you had better take an English Literature, you like English and it was oke for you. And i started to think yeah, i knew i like English and then i tried. Praise be to God, i was accepted here. And now i am a student of English Literature and i have started to do the best as best as i can. So that's why i am beside you now, guys..

I  know, being a human i'm not perfect human but i'm limited..
and i always try to do the best as best as i can to make all people happy and proud of me..

First Day of Creative Writing Class

         Monday, 18th, 2013 in F building room 304, creative writing class was begun. It was the first time to me to join this class. I was unlucky because I came late although just five minutes but it changed my life. I sat in the back row and it made me so sad. Actually I do not like sit at the back row but at that time I forced. I needed some extra concentration because I could not see what my lecture wrote on the whiteboard. And also I had to pay attention to everything that my lecture explained especially the class was so noisy because some students spoke and busy with their activity without paying attention to lecture.
          The first lesson that I got from this class was how the way describing something by showing not just telling. My lecture explained the way to describe by using senses. I must think hard than before because I get new lesson from him because the way we describe something is “we do not just tell it but we also must show it.” It is used to get more attention from the reader so that the reader also can feel what the writer feel not only know what the writer mean by his/her written.
          And then, we have tasks to describe some things by using five senses like favorite place, the smell that disgust me, the taste of my favorite food, the first sound that I heard in the morning, and the texture of my shoes.
          Overall, I am so happy in joining this class and I hope I can do my best in this class. It is interesting things that I can do. Because it can make me more understand how the way to write so that I can have good written. I realize that it is one way to me to express something through writing and then posting whatever I have written to my blog and also to improve my skill in writing so that I can have a better one rather than before.

"Showing" not just "Telling"

Hi Guys, this is my first posting on my new blog. It also completes my study in Mr. Dalih’s Class named Creative Writing. Let’s Read!!!
*    Sight
          My favorite place is the Beach, why?? Because when I go to the beach, I can feel so free. Sometimes I like going to the beach to vent everything which I fell by screaming loudly at a shoreline. While I am standing near the wave and hearing the sound of the wave, I can see how big the world without any limitation. Stepping into the water and playing even showering there. I can also enjoy the beautiful scenery and it really makes me happy and feels comfortable. When evening comes I can see sunset, it is very beautiful. Then the sky suddenly changes the color because the sun will change with the moon. It makes me grateful and amazes the power of god.
*    Smell
          I do not like the smell which comes from the death of animal. People usually call this carcass. When there is a dead animal and left at last, the animal will emit stench. When I smell it, I will feel dizzy and nauseate. The smell is very unpleasant. I am going to hold my breath while moving to the place that makes me better. It is the bad time.
*    Taste
          This food is made of chopped meat and crushed with flour and egg; usually it is formed like a ball name meatball. It was very tasty especially when it is mixed with various spices. We can also feel so spicy when we add some sauce or chili and we feel sweet sensation when we add some soy sauce. Or we can feel both of them when we add them equally. It depends on you, guys.
*    Hearing
          When I woke up in the morning, the first sound that I heard was my phone’s ringtone. The ringtone was I’m yours from Jason Mraz. It usually happened because my mother always calls me every morning to wake me up.
*    Touch
          The pink flower jelly shoes wedges. My shoes color’s is pink. It has flower form and wedges not flat. The display of shoes looks simple but elegant with Flexural base and the surface is not slippery. The shoes are very comfortable in use. It also can be used for formal and non-formal.

          That’s all my description about something by using my five senses. And I have tried to “show” the reader not only “tell” so that the reader can feel the same like what I feel.
